In addition to the discussion about sound bites you may notice that the sound track accompanying this podcast is different. It’s not that there’s no longer any play going on among the resident quadrupeds. Quite the contrary, there’s more play than ever. But since BeeBee has been gone, the sight of my voice recorder now triggers raucous play primarily between Ollie and Bamboo.
However—and this is a theory I’m still working on—I think Bam is part cat, part Lanky Demon, and part stealth bomber. This means that he can sneak up on Ollie, grab him around the neck, throw him to the floor and pin him, and flee before Ollie knows what happened. Or Bam may use Ollie to develop his other-worldly track and field skills. Sometimes he treats Ollie like a short furry hurdle and flies over him at warp speed. Other times he materializes right in front of Ollie and dazzles him with high jumps and nose bats that would surely win him medals in the Lanky Demon Olympics. What grace! What skill! Ollie shows his gratitude for these graceful displays by chasing the feline artiste around the house at his max fluff-speed.
So in spite of there being little background noise except for Ollie’s jangling tags as he swings his head back and forth trying to figure out what happened or tears off after a cat who’s long since gone, there’s a lot going on. And you can chalk up those strange pauses and short bursts of croaking by yours truly in the podcast to intervals during which Bam just couldn’t resist the urge to swing on one of my hanging plants and I was equally determined that he would not. I tried to edit them out, but sometimes the result is a little rough. I could have re-recorded the segment, but the probability was high that he would do something equally if not more outrageous so I quit while I was ahead.
