The next gift in this season of gifts that benefit our animals as well as ourselves is the gift of intention. Intention often gets forgotten in our desire to just to do something because it seems so much easier. And indeed skipping intention and just doing is easier—when it works. But when it doesn’t well, just recall those times when animals got themselves and us into trouble because we and/or they acted without thinking first. Or problems arose because our animals told us exactly what they intended to do, but we missed it because we weren’t paying attention.
When real life serves up such reminders of the cost of impulsive behavior, suddenly learning intention no longer seems like a waste of time.
