This podcast is the first of a holiday series that explores gifts we, animals, and nature in general share share and how these may effect our own and their lives. After I recorded this one, I realized that the title is someone misleading because somewhere along the line, I started to think of the sounds of nature as “silence” compared to the sounds we humans create. Why I did this, I have no idea. Maybe unlike the sounds of vehicles driving by my place during most of the day or my neighbor cutting firewood, the sounds I experienced in the wee hours of the morning thanks to a lifestyle imposed by a dial-up connection that performed at slightly-faster-than-glacial speed possess a quality that carries me to a completely different mental place.
What was and is it about these sounds made and makes them so special? Will I give up this special silence now that dsl permits me to get up at a “normal” time? Tune in to the podcast and find out.
