This is a rough idea of the two images I saw peripherally that served as the inspiration for the podcast:
And no, I wasn’t drinking!
Another somewhat related story is that shortly before Christmas I discovered that my rosemary tree was dying. Based on my research I then concluded that it needed more sun, was pot-bound and over-fertilized, a process used to accelerate its growth to accommodate decorative pruning. Although I was at the mercy of the weather to provide the increased sunshine it needed, but I knew I could repot it. Or I knew that until I discovered that potting soil, by definition, now contains all sorts of fertilizing additives. Speaking of search engines, I found myself using search strings that ultimately degenerated to “crappy potting soil” before I accepted that no one sold additive-free sandy soil in winter.
Fortunately the ground at my son’s hadn’t frozen yet so one of our Christmas activities involved locating a patch of lousy soil in his yard (which happened to be under an old lawn chair behind a storage shed) and filling a box with it for my horticultural mission of mercy. So far the plant doesn’t look any worse, but it certainly has a long way to go before it looks good again. Still, it still has a few green spikes so I’m not about to give up on it yet.
