Are you one of those people who automatically rants and rages about the unfairness of it all when you develop a cold, succumb to the flu, or get laid low by a hot intestinal virus? I admit that when it happens to me, it takes a lot of self-control not to succumb to such feelings. But I’m a lot better than I used to be because I realize how such negative emotions may undermine the immune response. And I’m also now at the age where I can’t afford to ignore any help Nature builds into the system.
This podcast considers another inhibitor to the healing process: impatience. While some may try to take advantage of our impatience by offering instant cures for ourselves or our animals and whether we speak of medical or behavioral problems, healing takes time. All bodies need time to heal the damage done by pathogens or injuries. The brain circuitry necessary to support new behaviors takes time to get up and running. Consequently, the sooner we get our impatience under control, the sooner we can take advantage of the body’s inherent healing power.
Feeling like you’re doomed to be impatient because your genes make you so or some such thing? Fear not. The podcast offers a simple exercise you and your pet can practice at home to test you impatience level and help you both learn to lower it.
