It’s understandable that kids and dogs could fall prey to our society’s love of labeling, regardless of any negative effect on the kids’ or dogs’ learning. But while dogs may not understand our words like children do, most are very good at picking up the tone of our voices and our body language. And if that message isn’t the one we think it is, maybe it’s time to rethink our human-canine communication skills.
